Bobbie’s Stray Cats is committed to the safety of the public and our community partners, as well as the humane treatment of the animals whose lives we are trying to improve. 

TNR Equipment Checklist

  • Humane box trap
  • Trap divider
  • Trap liner (newspaper or pee pads)
  • Trap cover (old towel or sheet)
  • Trap label (to label your name and cat information)
  • Bait (sardines, tuna, mackerel- anything smelly and in oil works best)
  • Gloves
  • Spoon or fork
  • Tape
  • Paper towels
  • Zip ties or carabiners
  • Binoculars
  • Flashlight
  • Cleaning and disinfecting supplies
  • Towel or blanket and pee pads to line your car to transport cats

Our recommendations for traps are Tru Catch Traps and Tomahawk Live Traps.

The Complete TNR Process

  1. You have located a stray cat.
  2. Make an appointment at a local or mobile veterinary clinic that will treat strays (please refer to our clinic locator and voucher information).
  3. Rent a trap or purchase one (please refer to our trap rental section).
  4. Review our instruction and education section on the trapping process 
  5. Trap cat according to the instructions provided in our educational materials.
  6. Transport the cat to the clinic.
  7. Recover the cat (in trap) for 24-36 hours.
  8. Return the cat to the location it was found and safely release it.
